How to measure kidney function

Your CKD stage is determined by your glomerular filtration rate (GFR)—a measurement of how well your kidneys are cleaning your blood. Using our GFR calculator, you can find out your estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and determine which stage you may be in.

How to manage kidney disease

There are specific steps you can take at every stage of CKD to help manage your health and feel your best.

Work closely with your kidney doctor

A nephrologist, also known as a kidney doctor, can help you slow the progression at any stage. Together, you can explore your options and develop a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle

By eating well and managing other health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease, you can stay your healthiest and feel your best.

Keep up with your medications

Taking medications and vitamins as prescribed can help you manage your overall health. All medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, can have an impact on your kidneys.
